As an organization that has long fought for patients’ and workers’ rights in coalition with
the labor movement, Health Access is proud to announce that we are now a union
employer! In a historic move for the organization, Health Access has voluntarily
recognized its first staff union, Health Advocates United – UAW local 2013.
This step is a natural progression aligned with others in the policy advocacy and
legislative community to reflect our values in not just in what we advocate for, but also
how we do our work. Recognizing the value of our staff, Health Access welcomes this
opportunity to work collaboratively with the union to identify steps to bolster and improve
our workplace. We look to build on Health Access’ long-standing commitment to
employee well-being, such as covering 100% of employee and family health benefits,
and more recent efforts to provide staff more support, security, and flexibility.
We believe this move will only make us stronger as we continue our efforts to empower
Californians and organizations to engage in health reform and health policy, and to win
meaningful improvements in the lives of patients and the public. We look forward to
working with Health Advocates United to make Health Access the best possible place to
work to achieve a better California for all.
