Medicare

Medicare is a federal program covering more than 4 million Californians who are age 65 or older or who are living with disabilities. Even though Medicare is a federal program, Medicare supplemental insurance plans and Part D prescription drugs plans are regulated at the state level.

Health Access participates in and supports efforts to protect consumers who buy Medicare supplemental health coverage and were pleased with the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act that will allow Medicare to negotiate prices and help lower prescription drug and other out-of-pocket costs.

The Affordable Care Act also included several provisions designed to generate billions of dollars in savings for Medicare, with many designed to improve care and safety for Medicare patients. Other provisions are meant to boost health outcomes and prevention. For example Medicare now covers a free annual wellness visit.
