SACRAMENTO, CA – Below is a statement from Health Access California, the statewide health care consumer advocacy coalition, on today’s passage of the legislative version of the 2024-2025 state budget.
“Health, consumer and community advocates applaud our state legislative leaders for voting on a budget that protects vital health care services for millions of Californians,” said Diana Douglas, Director of Policy & Advocacy for Health Access California. “The legislative budget rejects many of the most harmful cuts to our health care that were proposed in Governor Newsom’s May Budget Revision that would have left many Californians most in need even worse off.
“The Governor’s proposal placed too much of the burden to balance the state budget on those with the least, including immigrant and low-income communities. The budget voted on the state legislature today rightly preserves funding for programs like home care, Medi-Cal rate increases, public health initiatives, and recognizes the importance of keeping Health Care Affordability Reserve Fund dollars available so those in Covered California can continue to get the coverage they need,” said Douglas. “Governor Newsom should agree to the legislative budget adjustments to maintain needed health services for our California families.”
