2021-2022 Proposed Budget: Impacts on Health Care Access, Equity and Affordability during COVID-19 Pandemic

The 2021-22 state budget proposed by Gavin Newsom in January provides needed short-term investments to help Californians in crisis, but more ongoing and long-term support will be necessary to move California down the road towards health and economic recovery. The proposed budget makes some key changes to improve Medi-Cal, but does not include additional expansions to undocumented seniors in urgent need of health care access during this pandemic and beyond. There are also additional steps that can be taken to improve affordability both in Covered California and by containing costs across the health care system.
