Health Care Advocates Vow a Renewed Fight for Health Care in CA

SACRAMENTO, CA – Amanda McAllister-Wallner, interim executive director of Health Access California, the statewide health care advocacy coalition, issued this statement following the election of Donald Trump as President:

“Make no mistake – our health care is in the crosshairs once again. The difference now is that the Affordable Care and the Inflation Reduction Act are more popular than ever – more people are insured, getting access to the care they need, and saving money. Ripping health care away from millions of Californians and raising costs for millions more should not be the position of any of our representatives.

“In the last few years California has taken action to shore up our health care system, shielding us from some of the potential federal attacks to our care. This includes codifying ACA protections into state law, banning the sale of junk insurance plans, and continuing to keep our state’s marketplace, Covered California, open and accessible.

“We have been here before – millions of Californians, and even more across the country, stood up and took action to defend their health care. We will once again stand our ground to protect the most vulnerable amongst us: preserving existing LGBTQ+ health protections, ensuring access to health care for immigrants in California, low-income care supports, senior care, reproductive health care, and much more.”
