Labor Day weekend wonkery…

The new edition of Health Wonk Review has a new edition at InsureBlog, which cites our post on the various bills passing the California legislature.

Some editorial boards have also spotlighted the first-in-the-nation exchange bills, including the Los Angeles Times, which urged the Governor to sign those bills, despite the opposition of Anthem Blue Cross and the Chamber of Commerce. The San Jose Mercury News also urges signature on the exchange bills and a few other measures: Sen. Elaine Alquist’s SB 890, to help consumers navigate the complex world of shopping for an individual insurance policy; Sen. Mark Leno’s SB 1163 requires insurers to give 60 days’ notice before raising premiums and to publicly disclose their justifications for increases; and Assemblyman Hector De La Torre’s AB 2470 eliminates insurers’ ability to cancel coverage when Californians file claims for serious illnesses.

A full list of the bills on the Governor’s desk related to implementing and improving health reform is now on the front page of the Health Access website.
