SACRAMENTO, CA – Health Access California, the statewide health care advocacy coalition, issued the following statement on the announcement today that president Joe Biden will not seek re-election.
“Millions of Californians have health care coverage thanks to the leadership of Joe Biden both as President and serving as Vice President with President Obama. President Biden led our recovery out of the COVID-19 pandemic by prioritizing the investment in our health care system and public health infrastructure, anchored by the Inflation Reduction Act which took on Big Pharma to lower prescription drug prices for seniors, and provided more affordable health insurance for millions of Californians,” said Health Access California Interim Executive Director Amanda McAllister-Wallner.
“His legacy extends to his time as Vice President in the Obama Administration serving as a key voice in support of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act – the most significant expansion of our health care system in a generation.
“Health care advocates are committed to ensuring that Californians and all Americans continue to have access to quality, equitable, and affordable health care. We will continue to defend the progress under the Affordable Care Act and work to make the Inflation Reduction Act’s affordability assistance permanent. In California, we lead the nation in passing policies to improve and strengthen our health care system. That work is built on the foundation created by strong federal policies like those championed by Joe Biden.”
