Not Breaking Bad, But Broke in Our Health System..

No spoilers. As the TV show Breaking Bad ends its run, one popular cartoon circulated online suggests that in a country with universal health care (and perhaps after the Affordable Care Act), the plot could no longer use the financial justification for a chemistry teacher to become a meth dealer to pay for medical expenses. Otherwise, it would be a short show.

Some argue that the premise isn’t exactly health coverage, but additional expenses and desires for specific access–the costs not coverage by traditional plans.

But others have commented that the unique gaps in the American care system are real. For example, the out-of-pocket costs in the show are excessive, and would not be allowed after 2014 under Obamacare.

Obamacare doesn’t solve all our problems, but there’s a good case the could be made that it could prevent a problem like Walter White.
