Health care costs 101…

This video is being widely circulated on social media like Facebook, and I am impressed by the content and the delivery about discussing the complexity of the issue of why health care costs are so high in the United States. It’s worth watching, in that it avoid simple solutions and hot-button ideology in making its case:

This is very close to our analysis of both the problem (high costs in the United States) and the solution, which is complex, to which there is no one silver bullet. There’s lots of specific actions and policy reforms we advocate and that we can take to make a dent in the problem–most notably, to have a system that leverages group purchasing to get better deals. He doesn’t mention it, but the Affordable Care Act provide some new tools in many of these areas–and there more we can do to leverage those tools.
