California continues its strong voice…

Rep. Lois Capps (D-Santa Barbara) has been named Vice Chair of the Health Subcommittee of the Energy and Commerce Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives. A former nurse who has been passionate on health issues, Capps is also a supporter of the Health Care for America Now principles.

This simply reinforces California’s strong voice in health reform matters, along with Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and top people from each of the three committees that have relevant jurisdiction: Energy & Commerce Chairman Henry Waxman, Education & Labor Chairman George Miller, and Ways & Means Committee Health Subcommittee Chair Pete Stark.

Another voice could be within the Obama Administration: another rumor in the Washington Post and Sacramento Bee is that up for consideration for HHS Secretary is Lloyd Dean, CEO of Catholic HealthCare West nonprofit hospital chain, who was involved in both health reform conversations in creating Healthy San Francisco, and in advancing AB x1 1 in 2007. Regardless who is picked, there is a lot for national health reformers to learn from those experiences.

Health Access California promotes quality, affordable health care for all Californians.
